Sonar Multi-School
Find your way around Sonar Multi-School
Sonar Multi-School has the same layout as other Juniper Education products: a top bar, a main menu and the page itself. Most pages share the same controls for choosing an assessment point, grouping pupils and filtering them.
Main menu
Section titled “Main menu”Select an item to open it. Expand Summative Dashboard to see its sub-pages.
| Menu item | What it opens |
|---|---|
| Summative Dashboard | The page Multi-School opens on, with six widgets summarising teachers’ judgements. Its sub-pages are Primary Subjects, Early Years Subjects, Progress Over Time, Diminishing the Difference (Gender) and Diminishing the Difference (Disadvantaged). |
| Primary Attainment Overview | Pupils below, at and above age-related expectations (ARE) in years 1 to 6 |
| Early Years Attainment Overview | Pupils below, at and above ARE in the EYFS |
| Pupil Overview | Pupil numbers by characteristic, with attendance |
| Statutory Dashboard | Statutory results for an academic year, with national comparisons |
| Admin | Data completion reports and the Pupil Data Export |
| User Management | Trusts on the older set-up only: see Trusts not yet on Juniper Portal |
The Progress from Statutory Assessment page is not in the menu. It opens from the tiles on the Summative Dashboard.
Statutory Dashboard appears only if your role includes statutory reports. Admin shows only the pages your role allows.
Top bar
Section titled “Top bar”The top bar is the same as in Sonar Tracker. The parts trust users need most are:
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| Inbox (envelope icon) | Holds messages with links to the files you export |
| Products (grid icon) | Switches to another Juniper product, such as Sonar Tracker or Portal. The product opens in a new window. |
| Your initials | Opens your account menu. Switch between your trust and school accounts under Other accounts, or sign out with Logout. |
Find your way around describes the rest of the top bar.
Page controls
Section titled “Page controls”Most pages share these controls:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Assessment Period | Chooses the assessment point the page shows. Pages open on the current one. |
| Filters | Narrows the pupils counted: see Filters |
| View options | Change how pupils are grouped: see View options |
| View Report | On a dashboard widget, opens the page behind it |
| Last updated | The date the figures were last refreshed |
| Breadcrumbs | Links back to the pages you came through |
View options
Section titled “View options”View options set how a chart or table groups pupils, for example by school or by special educational needs (SEN). Most pages open By School, and every view includes All Pupils, the whole trust. Only pupils with assessment data appear.
| View option | Groups shown |
|---|---|
| By School | Each school in the trust |
| By Year Group | Each year group, as set up in Sonar Tracker |
| By Gender | Male and Female |
| By Disadvantaged | Disadvantaged and Not Disadvantaged |
| By SEN | SEN and Not SEN |
| By Ethnicity | Each ethnic group with pupils in the trust |
| By Subject | Each subject (Progress Over Time only) |
A pupil counts as disadvantaged if any of these apply:
- they have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years
- they have been looked after by a local authority for at least one day in the last year
- they left care through adoption or another formal route
SEN covers pupils on SEN support and pupils with an education, health and care (EHC) plan.
Not every page offers every option:
| Page | School | Year group | Gender | Disadvantaged | SEN | Ethnicity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Primary and Early Years Subjects | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Primary and Early Years Attainment Overview | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Progress Over Time (also By Subject) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Progress from Statutory Assessment | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Pupil Overview | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
The Diminishing the Difference pages use subject options instead. The Statutory Dashboard has its own groupings: see Reports and national figures.
Filters
Section titled “Filters”Filters work as they do on the newer Sonar Tracker screens: see Filter pupils. Select Filters to open the panel, choose your filters, then select Save. The page updates straight away.
In the filter lists, EAL means English as an additional language and FSM means free school meals. FSM6 means eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years.
| Filter | What you choose |
|---|---|
| Year Groups | One or more year groups |
| Ethnicity | One or more ethnic groups. All are included until you choose. |
| Gender | Male or Female |
| Attendance | A range of attendance, from 0 to 100% |
| Focus | Leavers, EAL, In Care, Ever In Care, Pupil Premium, FSM, FSM6, Service Child and SEN |
| SEN | A type of SEN provision, such as SEN support or an EHC plan |
| SEN Needs | A type of need, such as autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) |
Focus, SEN and SEN Needs sit under Characteristics.
Each Focus option has three states: not filtered (grey), only (green) and excluded (red). Leavers starts as excluded, so leavers are not counted unless you change it. Focus options explains the states.
Filters combine. For example, choosing Male under Gender and setting Pupil Premium to only shows boys eligible for the pupil premium. To remove filters, use the Applied tab: see Remove filters.
Print and export
Section titled “Print and export”Printed pages include the page title, the assessment point and the date the figures were updated.
| To get | Do this |
|---|---|
| A printout of the Statutory Dashboard or a data completion report | Select Print |
| A PDF | Print, and choose Save as PDF as the printer |
| A table as a spreadsheet | Select Export as CSV on Primary Attainment Overview, Early Years Attainment Overview or Pupil Overview |
| Pupil-level data for several schools | Use the Pupil Data Export in Admin |
Wide tables print better at a smaller scale. In your browser’s print window, open More settings and reduce Scale.
Export as CSV saves only the table you are looking at, to your browser’s downloads folder.
