Sonar Multi-School

Attainment and progress pages

ReferenceFor trust leaders and trust data and assessment leadsSonar Multi-School

These pages show the detail behind the Sonar Multi-School Summative Dashboard. Each one opens at the current assessment point, grouped by school, and counts only pupils with assessment data for the measure.

How the figures are calculated explains the measures and the trust average. Find your way around Sonar Multi-School covers view options, filters and exports.

Where to find it: Summative Dashboard, then Primary Subjects, in the main menu, or View Report on the Primary Subjects Overview widget.

The page has a chart for each of Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Combined (RWM). Each bar is a group (a school, unless you change the view), and the trust average is a dashed orange line. Select a bar for its details.

Under each chart is a data table, hidden until you open it. It lists each group with:

  • its percentage at or above age-related expectations (ARE), in a column such as Reading ARE % At or Above
  • Total pupils, the number of pupils with a judgement in that subject

You can group the page by any of the six view options, from By School to By Ethnicity.

Where to find it: Summative Dashboard, then Early Years Subjects, in the main menu, or View Report on the EYFS Subjects Overview widget.

It works like Primary Subjects, with a chart and table each for Combined (All Goals) and Combined (GLD). What the two measures include depends on whether a school assesses by early learning goal or by area of learning: see EYFS Subjects Overview.

Where to find it: Summative Dashboard, then Progress Over Time, in the main menu, or View Report on the Progress Over Time Overview widget.

This page is a line chart of the percentage of pupils at or above ARE in their combined judgement. It has one line per group and one point for each assessment point in this academic year and the two before it. Use it to spot a school or group whose line moves differently from the rest.

Group it By School (the default), By Subject, By Year Group, By Gender, By Disadvantaged or By SEN. Select a legend entry to hide or show its line.

Where to find it: select a tile in the Progress from Statutory Assessment widget on the Summative Dashboard. The page is not in the main menu.

The page shows one category at a time, the Level of Progress Made you chose. Group it By School (the default), By Year Group, By Gender, By Disadvantaged or By SEN.

FieldWhat it shows
CountPupils in the category in each group, out of all in the category across the trust, such as 15 out of 98
KS1 From GLD… To…Pupils in years 1 and 2: whether they reached a good level of development (GLD), and their current judgement
KS2 From KS1 SATs… To…Pupils in years 3 to 6: their KS1 result and their current judgement

The last two fields appear only when there is data. KS1 From GLD is not shown for Not on track but AT standard or On track and ABOVE standard. The EYFS profile has no outcome above expected, so these categories do not apply to years 1 and 2.

Each category compares the pupil’s current Combined (RWM) judgement (below, at or above ARE) with their starting point. KS1 results are working towards the expected standard (WTS), working at the expected standard (EXS) or working at greater depth (GDS).

CategoryYears 1 and 2Years 3 to 6
Not on track and BELOW standardReached GLD, now belowEXS or GDS at KS1, now below
Not on track but AT standardNot usedEXS or GDS at KS1, now at
On track but BELOW standardDid not reach GLD, now belowWTS at KS1, now below
On track and AT standardReached GLD, now atEXS at KS1, now at
On track and ABOVE standardNot usedGDS at KS1, now above

Accelerated track and ABOVE standardReached GLD, now above; or did not reach GLD, now at or aboveEXS at KS1, now above; or WTS at KS1, now at or above

Juniper Education suggests looking first at Not on track and BELOW standard, then at Not on track but AT standard. The accelerated categories show pupils who are now doing better than their starting point suggested.

Where to find it: Primary Attainment Overview in the main menu.

This page is a snapshot of attainment in years 1 to 6 at one assessment point. It opens on Combined (RWM), grouped by school. The chart shows how many pupils are Below ARE (red), At ARE (green) and Above ARE (purple), as numbers and percentages. The table gives the numbers.

ColumnWhat it shows
GroupEach school or group in alphabetical order, with All Pupils (the whole trust) first
Attainment breakdownThe number of pupils below, at and above ARE
% At and Above - GroupThe group’s percentage at or above ARE
% At and Above - All PupilsThe trust’s percentage, for comparison
Total pupilsPupils with a judgement in the subject

For Combined (RWM), the lowest judgement decides. A pupil below ARE in any of reading, writing and maths is Below, and a pupil above ARE in all three is Above. Everyone else, at ARE in all three or with a mix of at and above, is At.

The page has these controls as well as the view options, Filters and Assessment Period:

ControlWhat it does
SubjectShows Combined (RWM), the default, or one subject at a time
ARE CategoriesSimple, the default, shows below, at and above. The detailed view uses your schools’ own scale, such as Significantly Below, Below, Just At, Securely At, Above and Significantly Above. It is available only if every school in the trust uses the same summative codes.
Export as CSVSaves the table you are looking at

Where to find it: Early Years Attainment Overview in the main menu.

This is the EYFS version of the Primary Attainment Overview, with the same colours, columns and controls. It opens on Combined (All Goals), grouped by school.

The Subject list depends on how the school assesses the EYFS:

School assesses bySubject options
Early learning goalCombined (All Goals), the default; Combined (GLD); or any single goal
Area of learningCombined (All Goals), meaning all areas; Combined (GLD), meaning all areas except understanding the world and expressive arts and design; or any single area

If EYFS pupils have been assessed against the primary curriculum, the list also offers the primary subjects that have judgements.

Combined (GLD) and Combined (All Goals) follow the same lowest-judgement rule as Combined (RWM), across the goals or areas they include.
